Women's Month 2021
It’s extremely satisfying to see the role that women play in our organization. Their valuable input in how the business operates has played a major role in our current success, and in our concerted efforts to achieving gender equality in our workplace and society.
One significant advancement is the continuous reviewing of our recruitment practices at the entry level to identify and eliminate any barriers to women being hired. Although this practice has been embedded in the business for many years, a fresh and focused approach to create concrete solutions that eliminate obstacles is being encouraged at all levels.
We’re also re-engineering of our processes to facilitate women occupying previously–male-dominated roles. This process is a priority for us, and is ongoing for continuous improvement.
As per our Employment Equity guidelines, we regularly review feedback from our Business Unit Managers on progress in gender equality. Areas that do not reflect satisfactory improvement are addressed in concrete ways:
Our two-prong ‘feeder’ approach is aimed at sourcing and recruiting female Process Artisans, with a focused development programme that feeds into the Artisan programme;
The second approach is to source and recruit female Trainee Factory Managers who feed into our management level.
Beyond our factory walls, we are committed to building a more equitable community through formal initiatives and specialised programmes such as our ‘Women in Plumbing’ initiative, run by a Non-Profit Organisation.
We’re proud of the progress our company is making in furthering the careers of women. We’re also proud of the individual women in our organisation who are contributing so much to our success. This newsletter profiles a few of these remarkable women, who share their thoughts on working at Ceramic Industries.
Here’s to the strong women of Ceramic Industries!
